WARREN, NJ - Skyline Drive is closed to through traffic, and both Sunrise Drive near Mountain View Road, and Saw Mill Road near Reinman Road are closed due to downed trees involving power lines, according to Warren Township Police. No timeframe is available for repairs to be complete.
In addition, power is out on the lower half of Roseland Avenue, Gates, Helen Street, Wilshire, Mountainview Road and Lane, Trinity Place, Friar Tuck, Olsen, Robin, Briarwood, Manor Drive, and parts of Windermere. Power outages have also been reported in Meyersville, at the Valley Mall in Gillette, and a tree is down on Lakeview Drive in Watchung. A tree is down on Morristown Road in Gillette with wires blocking the roadway. Utilities have been notified with a power outage affecting 500+ residences.
Warren Township Schools have advised that all after school activities are canceled for Monday. YMCA after care will be running however parents are encouraged to pick up their children as soon as possible.
A wind advisory remains in effect through 4 a.m. Tuesday morning. Power outages have been reported in Warren and some trees are down in the area. The heaviest rain will fall Monday evening with a chance of additional sleet. A coating of 1.0" of sleet is possible.Lighter rain and occasionally mixed showers are still possible through Tuesday.
The strongest winds are expected to occur from late Monday morning through early Monday evening. Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines which may cause power outages.
Warren Middle School will dismiss Students at their REGULAR DISMISSAL TIME from their classrooms so that they will not be standing outside waiting for their bus.
All Warren School Gyms are closed this evening Monday January 23. All Recreation Practices, Travel Practices, and Travel HOME Games are canceled. If you have an AWAY Travel Game please check with your coach.
At Watchung Hills, because of the predicted high winds and heavy rain, after-school activities and the 4:15 pm late bus are canceled today, January 23. Athletic practices and the robotics build session will take place, but will end at 5 pm.
According to the advisory, winds at the peak of the storm will be sustained to 20-30 m.p.h. with some 40-55 m.p.h. gusts at times, highest thru the morning and early afternoon.
Emergency officials recommend residents secure all loose items in and around their properties and to prepare for the wind to take down trees and branches, causing power outages.
