BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ – A 7-month-old rescue dog will earn his wings this Sunday as Home for Good Dog Rescue flies him to New Jersey for a surgical procedure that will save his leg from amputation.

Kingsley, a purebred English Springer Spaniel, and 15 other dogs from Home for Good Dog Rescue’s Aiken, SC rescue facility will board the plane of New Jersey pilot Thomas Callahan to land at Morristown Municipal Airport at 2:30 PM on Dec. 10.

“We have worked with Callahan many times in the past, most recently to help transport rescue dogs to our New Jersey headquarters from Texas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey,” Richard Errico, Home for Good Dog Rescue’s co-founder and treasurer said. “We’re so happy he is helping us bring Kingsley home.”

This airlift’s most important passenger originally came from Vidalia, GA, where a vehicle crushed his leg and left him in severe pain. Rather than euthanize Kingsley, a local veterinarian called Diamonds in the Ruff, a rescue organization out of southern Georgia.

They then connected Kingsley with Home for Good Dog Rescue, which operates a South Carolina rescue facility for the purpose of medically readying and socializing rescue dogs to be transported northward in the hopes of adoption.

“Originally, amputation seemed likely for Kingsley,” Errico explained. “However, after connecting with Garden State Veterinary Associates in Tinton Falls, NJ, we were informed there was hope to save his leg through specialized orthopedic surgery.”

Kingsley will undergo an initial surgery on Monday, Dec. 11. He will then enter a local foster home during for recovery in the hopes of finding a permanent adoptive family for 2018.

Home for Good Dog Rescue (HFGDR) is a 100% foster-based, non-profit 501(c)(3) dog rescue established in 2010 in Summit, New Jersey with offices in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey. We rescue homeless dogs from high-kill shelters in the South, which are overflowing with unwanted dogs on the brink of being euthanized. We socialize, care for, and provide them life-saving medical care at our property in Aiken, SC, transport them to our rescue in New Jersey, and nurture them in our network of foster families while they await adoption into loving homes – giving them a second chance at life. To date, we have saved over 5,700 dogs from euthanasia.
