WARREN, NJ - Rich Seubert has resigned as head football coach at Watchung Hills Regional high school, WHRHS Director of Athletics Chris Van Vliet confirmed on Friday.

“The hardest day of my coaching career came when I had to tell my student athletes I resigned as head coach,” Seubert said on Friday night. “I wish nothing but the best to them and all student athletes and coaches at WHRHS.”

The Watchung Hills football team made it to the first round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 5 Tournament this season for the first time since 2013. After the game, a loss to Bridgewater-Raritan, Seubert said, “It’s not the way we wanted to end the season, we lost to a good football team last night.  I’m proud of my team for the way we fought back this year. Starting 0-5 and finding a way to win 4 in a row to make the playoffs is a special season. I’m proud of all the seniors for what they have meant to this program.  We started something special here at WH and we plan to improve on it next year.”

The next meeting of the Watchung Hills Board of Education is Tuesday, Feb. 20.
