NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Rutgers University Police have charged Rutgers student Daniel J. Leandry with two counts of attempted murder in the mischief night stabbing of two individuals inside the Mettler Hall Lobby Dormitory on College Avenue.
According to Rutgers Police, they received a 911 call at approximately 6:30 PM on October 30, 2015, reporting an aggravated assault in progress inside of the Mettler Hall lobby on College Avenue. Responding patrol officers located one affiliated and one non-affiliated victim who were both transported to the hospital for treatment where they remain in stable condition.
Police say that within minutes of arriving at the location members of the Rutgers University Police Department initiated an emergency alert and located the suspect within his Mettler Hall room. The alleged assailant was taken into custody without incident. Police claim a confrontation in the lobby between the victims and the suspect precipitated the assault.
Leandry, 18 years old, of Garfield, New Jersey, has been charged with Attempted Murder, 2 counts of Aggravated Assault with a weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes. He is being remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional facility in lieu of $735,000.00 bail.
