Somerset Parks Commission Environmental Education Center Announces Programs Aug. 31 to Sept. 6

BASKING RIDGE, NJ- The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature as summer arrives in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

Pre-registration is required for programs and may be done by calling 908-766- 2489 or NJ Relay at 711 for individuals with a hearing or speech impairment. Registration is available online at www.somersetcountyparks.org

CHILDREN & CHILD/PARENT PROGRAMS

Tree House Gang

Tuesdays, September 8, 15, 22, and 29 or from 12:45 P.M. to 3:15 P.M. Children ages 3 to 5 will be entertained and educated at these afternoon

science and nature classes. Program will include hikes, hands-on

activities, interacting with live animals, and creating crafts.
Fee is $65 per person for the 4-day session

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Forest Fitness

Tuesdays, September 1, 8, 15, and 29 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.

Adults are invited to join a weekly walking group, enjoying nature along the level trails of Lord Stirling Park.

Fee is $20 for the 4-day session.

Birding Along the Canal

Wednesday, September 2 from 8:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.

Adult birders will join a Naturalist for an early morning of local bird watching along the Delaware and Raritan Canal.

Early Birds Paddle

Thursday, September 3 from 6:30 A.M. to 8:30 A.M.

Paddlers will start the day on a quiet paddle along the Passaic River to enjoy swamp sights in the early morn.

Fee is $20 per person.

Family Nature Walk – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, September 5 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk

through the Great Swamp.
The program is free and pre-registration is not required.

Sunday Forest Fitness

Sundays, September 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.

Adults are invited to join a Sunday morning walking group, enjoying nature along

the level trails of Lord Stirling Park.
Fee is $20 for the 4-day session.

Blue “BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal- care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
