NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – A fast moving fire at the Regency Village apartments on Route 22 left a man and a woman dead and dozens homeless. The fire which could be seen from Warren, began around 11:45 a.m. and raced through the apartment jumping to neighboring units. A North Plainfield Police Officer is credited with saving a third person who was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The fire has left eight units uninhabitable according to North Plainfield officials.
Warren's Mount Bethel Fire's Squad 61 was called to the scene and provided water supply, search and overhaul support.
“It is a terrible tragedy to have two residents lost in such a terrible fire, but if it was not for the quick actions of the North Plainfield Police Department and Fire Department there may have been even more injuries,” said North Plainfield Mayor Michael Giordano.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. TAP into North Plainfield will provide updates to this story once more information is made available
