PLAINFIELD, NJ - It's been 240 years since his last visit to the Drake House Museum in Plainfield, and this time, George Washington brought along wife Martha.
The 240th Anniversary Reenactment of the Battle of Short Hills took place on Saturday, June 24. As a special treat, the Washingtons continued their tour of Union County on Sunday when they spoke to a group of Drake House members who gathered for their annual meeting.
Almost two and a half centuries ago, George Washington met with scouts, and commanded his troops from the Drake House for three days. Today, members in attendance were enthralled by the stories shared by Washington and his Patsy, as he affectionately called Martha.
Check out some video as George talks about joining the Continental Congress, reading the Declaration of Independence to his troops for the first time, and spending time at Valley Forge.
