WARREN, NJ -  Warren children with special needs will have an opportunity to participate in an organized sports program this spring, through Warren Baseball and Softball Inc. Registration will open Jan. 1, 2014.

Beginning in Spring, 2014, Warren Baseball Softball, Inc. will begin its first year of the Buddy Ball program for children with special needs.

The Bambino Buddy Ball Division was established by Babe Ruth Baseball as a program for children with special needs. The most fundamental goal of Buddy Ball is to give everyone a chance to play, regardless of disability.

Buddy Ball features volunteer “buddies” who help by assisting the players when needed. Today, more than 30,000 players participate in a Buddy Ball type league nationwide.

Children with disabilities residing in Warren,  aged 5-20, are eligible to participate.

There will be one Buddy Ball game per week, on a weekend day, from April through June with no scheduled practices, just pregame warm- up.

Registration will begin January 1, 2014. To register a player, go to http://www.warrenbaseballsoftball.com. Click on Register Online, then Begin Registration, under the Buddy Ball section. There is a $25.00 fee, to help cover the purchase of baseball shirts, caps and trophies.

Volunteer Buddies in 9th grade and up, and adult volunteers are welcome. All Volunteers and Buddies: Go to the website http://www.warrenbaseballsoftball.com and complete the Buddy Ball volunteer form under Online Registration.
