WARREN, NJ - Twenty-four eighth grade wordsmiths were recently honored for their short stories, personal essays, humor or poetry. 

The students of language arts teacher Christine Cirrotti placed in the regional competition of the 2017 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. 

Ten students were awarded Silver medals; 13 received honorable mentions. Gold Medal winner Kathy Liang advances to the national competition with her short story, “Leblough,” about the social norms surrounding beauty and weight in one African country. She will be notified on March 14 if her writing receives national recognition.
