WARREN, NJ - They did it. Local cakery owners and long-time friends, Gail Kingman and Lauren Vicari were featured in an episode of the Food Network’s newest culinary competition show called “Winner Cake All” on Monday night. And they won!
Warren was buzzing on Tuesday with talk of the “cake girls” win and congratulations.
“I congratulate them,” said Warren Township Committeeman Vic Sordillo. “We have very talented residents in our Township and we are very proud that they chose to live in Warren and contribute to our culture and quality of life”
On Tuesday, Kingman posted,” Such a moment for me to meet the amazing and beautiful Giada DeLaurentis!!!! I am blown away by all the support and feedback we are getting today about our episode!!! We feel so loved!! ESP to realize just how many stayed up till midnight to watch!!!”
Lauren Vicari, co-owner of Sweet Passion Cakery located in Warren, NJ said the cakery received a call from a Food Network representative after seeing their work and invited them to interview for a spot on the show.
“It was pretty insane to get a call like that,” she says. “Cake shows inspired me to open up my own cake business years ago so I thought being on one myself would, not only be an incredible opportunity, but bring everything full circle.”
Co-owner, Gail Kingman, jumped at the opportunity. “You don’t say no to the Food Network,” Gail said. “Not only do we make amazing cakes, we are an amazing team – so I feel like that gave us an edge. I couldn’t do what I do without Lauren and vice versa. We have a tremendous amount of faith in one another.”
Vicari and Kingman, both self-taught cake artists, have been making over-the-top cakes for the past 8 years. Starting as a hobby, they quickly created a following and expanded their hobby to a full-time business. Creating celebration cakes, wedding cakes, and more, the girls are known for their attention to detail, clean lines and personalized customer service.
“The interview process for the show was almost as intense as being on the show,” Vicari says. “We were told late one evening that we needed to create a sculpted cake in a matter of hours. From that point on it was interview after interview with various producers.”
“Before we knew it, we were flying to LA to compete,” Kingman added. “This once in a lifetime experience was about to become a reality.”
The new show, hosted by Giada De Laurentiis, which premiered its first episode on Jan. 7, brings together four top-notch bakers each week in a series of elaborate cake-making challenges. Only one team can claim the $10,000 prize.
