WARREN, NJ - Justin LaCapra scored 20 points to lead Watchung Hills in a 60-57 victory over Bridgewater-Raritan in an electric gym on Thursday night.
Anthony Rocchietti netted 14 points and Mark Ball added eight points for Watchung Hills. The Warriors trailed, 15-11, after the first quarter but turned up the intensity to close the gap and go ahead, 32-29, at the half.
Watchung Hills coach Justin Salton said,"The team responded after a tough loss on Tuesday with a terrific win tonight. It was a complete program win – from the players, coaching staff, support staff, and our student fans. It was a great atmosphere tonight, and the team finally put together a complete, full game. We continue to stress to our guys that we are a very good team and will be very tough to beat if we can put full games together. Tonight, our energy and execution played key roles in our ability to knock off a top tier team like Bridgewater. Brick by brick…."
Bridgewater-Raritan got a game-high 22 points from Matt Mancuso, 12 points from Eric Nickel and nine by Jared Rappoport. The Panthers fall to 7-5 with the loss. Bridgewater coach Gene McAteer (himself a Watchung Hills alumnus) said, "It was a great environment for high school athletics. I thought the Watchung team played with a lot of energy. I was proud of our Bridgewater squad for never giving up and fighting back at the end."
The Warriors improved to 9-6 with the victory and will take on Pingry at home on Saturday.
