SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ - For the first time in 38 years, the Watchung Hills boys cross-country team captured the Somerset County title with a one-point victory over Ridge.
 
Watchung Hills last won the title in 1976, which was actually a shared title between Watchung Hills and Bernards. The last solo Watchung Hills championship was secured in 1973.
 
 
Chris Negri finished second overall for the Warriors with a time of 16:28. 
 
Watchung Hills edged Ridge, 76-77, with clutch help by Avery Carrico, who finished with a time of 17:12 to place 14th, and sophmore John Dardis, who placed 16th in 17:19, one second in front of two Ridge runners and two seconds in front of another Ridge runner.

 
The team’s average time was 17:12. Ryan Martins and Matt Tong came in 24th and 25th with times of 17:30 and 17:34, respectively.
 
After winning three straight titles, Hillsborough finished third with 105.
