BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, NJ - So which high school girls soccer conference is the strongest? The debate may be settled this weekend when Skyland Conference teams will meet Shore Conference teams in the inaugural "The Mountains vs. The Seas" girls soccer showcase and fundraising event.

Seven cross-conference matchups are set for Sunday, Sept. 23, at The Pingry School, with the teams fundraising to support Go4theGoal, a national nonprofit dedicated to helping kids with cancer and their families.

The event coincides with the 8th Annual National Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day, Friday, Sep. 28.

Watchung Hills girls soccer head coach Brian Figueiredo said the idea for the event came about from years of debate regarding which conference was stronger in girls high school soccer.

The original goal was to raise $30,000, and as of today, over $44,000 has been raised. “Just incredible what all the teams have done, and I'm extremely proud of everyone's efforts,” said Figueiredo.

The Watchung Hills and the Pingry Girls Soccer teams are running neck and neck as the leading fundraising teams to date with $7827 and $8200 raised.

"What an amazing event organized by our own Coach Fig and graciously hosted by Pingry,” said WHRHS Director of Athletics Dan Root. “ I am incredibly proud of the efforts of our girls soccer team who have raised over 7,800 dollars."
