WARREN, NJ - The 2014 Watchung Hills Jr. Midgets won the Jersey Valley Conference Championship Sunday afternoon versus the Flemington Falcons.  This win sends the team to the Eastern Region playoffs for the second straight season, and a match up with the Central Jersey Champions, Franklin Warriors. Wolverine team captains were:
Andrew Reale, Connor Cook, Anthony Tomaro, Jack Taub, and Matt Colantuono.
The Wolverines jumped on the Falcons early and often in the championship game winning by the score of 34-0.  The Wolverines first touchdown was run by Connor Cook on a 10 yard run behind the crushing block form Mike Fornaro.  The Wilverines were led by quarterback Matty Colantuono who scored the second touchdown on a keeper with great blocks from Dylan Capperelli, Christian Rowan and Anthony Tomaro.  The final offensive touchdown of the day was run by Andrew Reale with great blocks from tight ends Logan Scheibler and Patrick Stefurak.  Owen Kovacs made one of three extra point kicks on a very windy day and the Wolverines converted two extra point runs. Joey Denave scored the first with a pancake block from Declan Kazan and Kovacs scored the second.
Defensively the Wolverines were nearly perfect holding the high flying Falcon offense to very few yards and only one first down.  The defense was led by defensive linemen Adam Claxton,  Marc Daas, Matt Drews, Chris Hu and George Rooks.  Right before the first half came to an end, defensive end Matt Drews pressured the Falcon quarterback causing a fumble which was picked up by Andrew Reale and returned for a touchdown with great blocking  by Mario Martino.  The linebackers Connor Cook, Owen Kovacs, Andrew Reale, Jack Taub, Anthony Tomaro, and Justin Uberoi gang tackled the Falcon backs all day causing several fumbles.  The final touchdown was a fumble recovery caused by Isaiah Parker where Andrew Reale once again scooped up the fumble and returned it 32 yards for the touchdown.  The secondary of Matty Colantuono,  Joey Denave, Sean Dillon, and Mario Martino shut down the passing game of the Falcons.  Colantuono had 2 interceptions on the day.
The Jr. Midgets Wolverines will take on the Franklin Warriors on Saturday, November 8 at 4 p.m. at Sabella Park in North Brunswick. Everyone is invited to support the boys on their quest to be crowned National Champions.
