WARREN, NJ -  The Watchung Hills Pop Warner Jr. Midget team remains unbeaten after winning, 36-6, over Montclair in the first round of the Eastern Region tournament this past Sunday.

The scoring started when Thomas Schelling connected with Chris Clintock in the back of the end zone in the first quarter for the tuchdown and Clintock added the kick to go up, 8-0. The Bulldogs of Montclair responded with a short pass and long run up the left sideline for a touchdown and trailed 8-6 after the first quarter. The Watchung Hills Wolverines put together a long drive and capped it off with a 1-yard plunge by Schelling for the second touchdown behind the blocking of Tyler James, Jonathan Taub, and Ryan Pedrani to take a 14-6 lead at the half.

The second half was dominated by great special teams play and strong execution by the Wolverine offense. Early in the third quarter, Matt Roth made a big hit in the Montclair backfield jarring the ball loose and Kevin Carracapa recovered the fumble for Watchung Hills. The Wolverines drove the ball down the field and scored on another quarterback sneak by Schelling. Connor James had two carries for 21 yards on that drive behind the blocking of Matt Cardoza and Roth. Taub delivered a perfect on-side kick and Ryan Trimble recovered for the Wolverines. Schelling connected with Roth on a 30 yard pass early in the 4th quarter and Clintock made the kick to put the Wolverines up, 28-6. Connor James recovered the next kick for the Wolverines and they marched down the field again. Chase Jones had three carries for 16 yards and the last was a tough 5-yard run up the middle for the final score. Clintock added the kick. The Wolverines face Trenton next Sunday for the NJ State Championship.
