WARREN, NJ - The Watchung Hills Pop Warner Pee Wee team lost, 27-0, to the Hillside Jr. Comets on Sunday. The first-round loss ends the Wolverine season and chance to go to Disney World to play for a national championship. The Wolverines ended the season with a 9-1 record and as Jersey Valley Champions.
The Wolverine offense drove the ball inside the 20-yard line on the opening drive with great runs by Connor Cook, Andrew Reale, and Jack Taub. The key play on the drive was a 8-yard run by Cook where he followed the blocks of John Bechtle, Charlie Everhard, Mike Fornaro, Anthony Tomaro, and William Tselepis. The second Wolverine drive went inside the 10-yard line after a great pass from Matty Colantuono to Patrick Stefurak. The best run of the day was Connor Cook on a counter behind a massive blocks from Adam Claxton and Justin Uberoi. The run went 20 yards down to the Comet 6-yard line.
The second half started with an onside kick by Matt Pereira which was recovered by Andrew Reale.
The Wolverine defense was pushed around for the first time this season. Until this game, the defense had allowed only one touchdown. The defense was led by the defense line of Michael Butrico, Marc Daas, Matt Drews, Isaiah Parker, and Christian Rowan.
Adam Claxton sacked the elusive Comet quarterback for a big loss.George Rooks recovered a fumble caused by linebacker Jack Taub. Owen Kovacs made several tackles from his linebacking position. The defensive secondary of Joey Denave, Sean Dillon, Mario Martino, Matt Pereira and Pat Stefurak made open field tackles on the Comet backs all day.
