BAYONNE, NJ - On Sunday September 21,the Watchung Hills Wolverines defeated the Bayonne Bombers 22-6. The Wolverines offensive line dominated the Bombers all day creating over 200 rushing yards.
The line of Adam Claxton, Charlie Everhard, Michael Fornaro, Chris Hu, George Rooks, Christian Rowan, Logan Scheibler and Anthony Tomaro opened huge holes for running backs Connor Cook, Owen Kovacs, Andrew Reale, and Jack Taub. Jack Taub led the team in rushing, going over the 100 yard mark. The first touchdown of the day was a quarterback keeper by Matty Colantuono. Colantuono rolled right, got a bone jarring block from Patrick Stefurak and went 20 yards into the end zone. The second touchdown was a fifteen yard run by Owen Kovacs after he got a hole opening block from Matt Pereira. The third and final touchdown came on a 40 yard run by Kovacs where he followed a great lead blocks from Declan Kazan and Justin Uberoi. Kovacs converted 2 out of 3 extra points.
Once again the Wolverine defense was stingy holding the high flying Bomber offense to 6 points and kept the running game in check all day. The defense was led by Dylan Capparelli, Adam Claxton, Marc Daas, Matt Drews, Isaiah Parker, and George Rooks. George Rooks pressured the quarterback right into a blind side crushing hit by Adam which caused a fumble recovered by Reale.
The linebackers delivered punishing hits all game led by Connor Cook, Owen Kovacs, Andrew Reale, Jack Taub, and Anthony Tomaro. The secondary of Joey Denave, Sean Dillon, Mario Martino, and Patrick Stefurak kept the passing game to no completions and Denave ended the game with an acrobatic interception.
