WARREN, NJ - The Watchung Hills Wolverines Junior Pee Wee closed out their regular season with an impressive record of 7 – 1 this past weekend with a big victory against the A & M Redbirds. This was the second time the two teams faced each other and both times the Wolverines were victorious.
This sequel had a nice ending but the game did not start off as expected. The Redbirds took to offense first and scored on their opening drive and then again later in the first quarter to take a 14 – 0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Wolverine’s offense, lead by QB Aidan Grochowski, went to work with a pass to Liam Morris for a key first down. A couple of plays later Danny Attanasio took a trap play 35 yards for a TD and the first points for the Wolverines. Austin Kolakowski took the extra point in to bring the score to 14 – 7 at the end of the half. The second half was a different story when the Wolverine’s offensive linemen Michael Carroll, Ceaser Brown, Connor Comitini, Stevie Prisco, Alex Kruszczynski, Ian Hulbert, and Logan Dickerson started to create many opportunities for the committee of running backs that fuels this Wolverine’s offense. Quadir Williams, Liam Morris and Austin Kolakowski ran hard to keep moving the chains for the Wolverine’s offense. Then Kolakowski had a 26 yard gain, Morris added a 30 yard run and Jake Zotollo ran 20 yards into the end zone while QB Aidan Grochowski added the extra point to tie this game up in the third quarter to 14 – 14. The Wolverines defense kept the Redbirds out of the end zone after the first quarter. The defense stepped up with big tackles from Kaisan Edmonds, Williams, Morris, Zotollo, Hulbert, Logan Weiss, Trotter Temple, Damien Moccia, and Evan Collazo. In the fourth quarter the defense would put the offense back on the field after Kolakowski intercepted the Redbirds pass. Zotollowould take a hand off 15 yards, Morris would take a trap down to the one yard line, setting up Zotollo’s second touchdown of the day that would put the Wolverines ahead. Morris added the extra point to put the Wolverines up 21 – 14. The Redbirds took to a hurry up offense but the Wolverines defense was too much as Zotollo had an interception after Carroll pressured the Redbird’s QB. The Wolverines won with a final score of 21 – 14. The Wolverines will be preparing for the playoffs that start next weekend. Good luck boys.
