WARREN, NJ -  Last weekend, the Watchung Hills 10U girls competed in the May Challenge Softball Tournament in Readington, NJ.

On Saturday, they went 2-1 in pool play and earned the #2 seed for bracket play.

After a good night’s sleep, they came to play on Sunday.

Semi Finals (6 innings):

WH Wolverines    8

Lenape Blazers      1

*Mia Simon pitched all 6 innings earning the win, allowing just 4 hits, only 1 walk, and striking out 14.  Lianna Bartnick went 3 -3 and scored two runs.

WH hitters blew the game open in 5th inning, scoring 5 runs highlighted by McKenna Healey’s 3-run double that put it away.


Championship Game (9 innings):

WH Wolverines    5

NJ Venom            4

WH outlasted Venom through 9 hard fought innings including the last 2 innings played under International Tie Breaker rules (inning starts with runner on second base).

*Emily DuHaime pitched all 9 innings earning the win, allowing 9 hits, 5 walks, while striking out 24.  Emily also went 3 – 4 and scored two runs.

WH batters scattered 8 hits including a clutch RBI double by Angelina Ridente in eighth inning. Game winning RBI in ninth inning came courtesy of Lindsey Meslow.
