BAYONNE, NJ – Watchung Hills’ Senior Kevin Sylvestri pitched five innings of one hit baseball and the Hustlin Warriors’ banged out five runs on 11 hits to enable the Warriors to ground the Bayonne Bees 5-1.  Sylvestri was nearly flawless in his opening day start giving up no runs, no walks, and striking out six in five innings of work.

“Kevin (Sylvestri) was very strong,” said Watchung Hills Head Coach Joe Tremarco. “He had great command of all his stuff and the defense made plays behind him.”

The Hustlin’ Warriors made plays in field, on the mound and at the plate. Watchung Hills’ Jeff Poggi went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI's. Hustlin Warriors Senior Nick Mink was 1-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored and sophomore Andrew Martins went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

“We were aggressive on our pitches, and we were able to work some good hitters counts,” said Tremarco.

Alvarez had the lone RBI for Bayonne.

Watchung Hills’ Junior Mike Murray pitched the last two innings giving up a run on two hits, three walks, and struck out two.

Watchung Hills next plays home Monday, April 3 against Summit.
