BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Watchung Hills Hustlin' Warriors varsity baseball team shut out Bridgewater-Raritan in eight innings on Wednesday, 3-0
Junior Nick McGann threw 6 1/3 innings giving up no runs on sux hits, walking three and striking out four in the no decision. Senior Dylan Murphy pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief retiring all five batters he faced to earn the victory.
Nick Mink broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the eighth inning on a passed ball to put the Warriors up 1-0. James McKenna then hit a sacrific fly to center scoring Dylan Murphy. Jeff Poggi hit an RBI single scoring Brandon Hylton.
"McGann gave us just the effort we needed today and Murphy showed how powerful a senior can be in that situation...and on that, our pitchers have done an excellent job trusting the gloves behind them and always giving us a chance to win a game," said WHRHS head coach Joe Tremarco. " We've had a tough stretch the past two weeks where we just can't seem to get that seeing-eye single we need, but our pitchers and defense have held steady....definitely two important peices you needed heading into the funnest part of our season. Battling day in and day out in these one and two run games is never easy, but our guys have remained focused not to get too high or too low, have kept a positive spirit about them, and have stayed together through it....so I'm confident that our best baseball is still to come."
Mink was 2 for 4 with a double and run scored. Jeff Poggi was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Nate Race was 2 for 4 for Bridgewater.
