BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Warriors are making history.

Gavin DeFuria scored a hat trick, including the game winner in triple overtime, to lead the Watchung Hills boys lacrosse team over Northern Highlands on Saturday in triple overtime in the first round of the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions , 5-4. The Warriors advance to the semi final round of the NJSIAA tournament of Champions for the first time in school history.

Watchung Hills will face Delbarton at Kean University in the TOC semifinals on June 6.

Watchung Hills was down, 4-3, at the half, and after a scoreless third, netted one in the fourth to send the game to overtime. Connor James and Jack Taub each scored a goal for the Warriors. Taub scored with just over four minutes left in the fourth to tie the game and send it into overtime.

“Knowing that we have the opportunity to practice together on Monday is an extremely rewarding feeling,” said WHRHS head coach Jamie Lovejoy. “Our players persevered through a number of challenges this evening, as they have all season, and again found a way to win. I could not be more proud their unwavering commitment to each other. They are an exceptional group of young men.”

Before this year, Watchung Hills has never won a sectional title or a group title.
