PENNINGTON, NJ - The Watchung Hills boys lacrosse team did it. The Warriors are the NJSIAA Group 4 champions for the first time in school history and are going to the Tournament of Champions.
Watchung Hills took a 3-0 lead after the first quarter and defeated Lenape Valley on Wednesday, 10-3.
The Watchung Hills seniors were on fire. Connor James led the Warriors offense with four goals. Brian Richmond scored a hat trick, Gavin DeFuria netted two goals and Joe Rica added one.
“I'm so proud of our group for their commitment to improvement and preparation during the course of the season,” WHRHS head coach Jamie Lovejoy said after winning the sectional championship on Saturday. “It was a program goal to earn a state championship and our guys did just that. They played with grit and for each other, as they have all season long. This is a special win for our players, parents, alumni and community. We're thrilled to have more time together and are excited by the opportunity to make a run at the TOC.”
The TOC quarterfinals are set for June 2, with semifinals June 6 and finals on June 9.
