BRANCHBURG, NJ  – In a true team win with four golfers shooting under 80, the Watchung Hills boys golf team won the Somerset County golf championship on Monday at Neshanic Valley Golf Course and, in their inaugural season, the girls came in fifth.

With a team total of 309, the Watchung Hills boys were 12 shots better than Montgomery and Pingry.

And with a 76, Watchung Hills senior Adam Goldstein came within four strokes of Pingy Junior Jake Mayer.

Mayer won the NJSGA Boys Junior Championship last summer.

The Watchung Hills girls team placed fifth with a score of 422. Marlene Tartaro lead the team with an 82.

The girls were impressive with Madeline Jin (Montgomery) 67; 2. Christine Chao (Pingry) 70; 3. Anina Ku (Ridge) 71; all besting Mayer's score.
