UNION, NJ - Watchung Hills has won the Group 4 title, defeating previously unbeaten Egg Harbor, 4-0, on Friday. Robin McCabe pitched a three-hit shutout, did not walk a batter and struck out five.

Head coach Mike D'Alessandro said, "Robin pitched a great game with tremendous poise. Our seven seniors led the way from day one. I'm so happy they can go out with a State championship!"

Julia Stasil was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. Brooke Aldrich had two hits, and Kayla Schnik had a hit, a run scored and RBI for Watchung Hills.

And Annie Suitovsky made a diving catch with a runner on second and one out in the second inning to keep the Eagles from scoring.

With no score in the fourth inning, a Genna Cicchetti bunt brought in the first run. With two on and two out, Kayla Schinik lined the ball into the left-center field gap and two runs scored after a wild throw back into the infield.

And Skyler Weisberg tweeted, "THAT'S A GREAT WAY TO END MY CAREER"

Coach Jeff Dealaman said, "We just couldn't be happier for this group of girls. Especially the seniors. We've never seen a team as close as they are, they do everything together. It's a real family. After the game many were crying, but they weren't the tears of joy that you would expect after such an accomplishment, they were upset because winning the state championship meant there were no more games to play. They didn't want the season to end."

The victory was No. 28 for Watchung Hills. The Warriors 2016 record is now 28-5.

"Congratulations to head coach Mike D'Alessandro, his staff, our lady warriors, and all of our parents and community members on winning the Group IV state softball championship, " Athletic Director Chris Van Vliet said.  "This was a wonderful ending to a very special season. A season in which our girls won the county championship, the state championship, and broke the school record for wins (28). 2016 will now go down as the greatest season in Watchung Hills softball history."
