WARREN NJ- Woodland School held an Earn N Burn on Thursday June 13 to raise money for The Raise Your Glass Foundation founded by Woodland fifth grade teacher Adam Yenish and his wife Danielle.
The mission of The Raise Your Glass Foundation (RYG) is to assist charitable health-related organizations that make the impossible, possible for children of all ages, races, creeds, and needs. They were inspired to create the Foundation after experiencing first hand the outstanding humanitarian and philanthropic mission of Shriners Hospital for Children to provide superior care for children with challenging physical disabilities and special health care needs. Shriners never turn away a single patient regardless of the ability of the patient or family to pay. The Yenish's son Anthony John (A.J.) was born with Arthrogryposis . A.J.'s hands and feet were severely contracted at birth and he began receiving treatment at Shriners Hospital-Philadelphia just 20 days after he was born. He is able to walk and move his hands fluidly due to the extraordinary care local therapists and the physicians of Shriners Hospital-Philadelphia provided. RYG is dedicated to identifying and recognizing the exemplary achievements of such organizations by raising funds and awareness.
Mr. Yenish kicked off the year by visiting every classroom and relating A.J.'s story. Woodland School has supported RYG all year. The students have donated books and participatted in class service projects to make hospital stays a little easier, They contributed their loose change on Thankful Thursdays and purchased pencils, bracelets and holiday items all to raise money to benefit other children. Thursday's pledge drive ,Earn N Burn, was the culmination of the fund raising school year and an opportunity for the students to celebrate their success. Depending on the level of pledges raised, the kids participated in an idance, a laser maze, a game truck and the top ten earners went into a money machine to grab extra raffle tickets. The PTO raffled an ipad mini which was excitedly won by Brianna Jimenez. The Earn N Burn fundraiser netted in excess of $10,000 and Woodland School raised close to $15,000 , and counting, for The Raise Your Glass Foundation this school year. Yenish's message that "kids can help kids" and that "every dollar counts" has resonated through the school community.
