Located on a quiet residential street in Warren, NJ, Spring Academy Montessori Preschool opened its doors to the public in late November 2016. Spring Academy wanted to fill a niche that was missing in the community -- a pre-school with a Montessori philosophy combined with an emphasis on language immersion. Since then, parents have been coming from all over to enroll their children in Spring Academy and reap the benefits of its impressive academic curriculum.
This new location in Warren is Spring Academy’s third, owned and operated by husband and wife team Bruce Huang and Jill Ji. The two were so impressed by the Montessori philosophy and curriculum years ago when searching for childcare for their older daughter, that they decided to be certified in Montessori teaching and then open a school of their own. So in 2011 they took the plunge and opened their first school Little Spring Montessori Academy. At Little Spring students were taught by the Montessori philosophy while also learning Chinese. Due to the school’s increasing popularity, the pair decided to open additional locations in Scotch Plains and Garwood. Finally, in late 2016, Spring Academy came to Warren, New Jersey!
“Education has always been my passion,” co-founder Jill said. “Having young children of my own, I understand the hassles parents go through trying to find a good school. We are your community school which offers both quality and convenience’
Originally called Little Spring, the school’s name was later changed to Spring Academy. Spring is a season of transformation and new beginnings. It’s a time for planting seeds and in the Chinese culture, it represents a source of life so Jill and Bruce wanted to keep “Spring” in their school name.
Spring Academy’s philosophy is based on “individualized education” where each student is taught to unlock his/her inner potential and encouraged to excel academically. Instructors provide one-on-one attention and prepare students to be well-rounded human beings, develop lifelong skills and discover their true talents. Spring Academy’s curriculum also teaches young children using the Montessori philosophy to build a solid academic foundation, develop independence, and celebrate diversity. Monthly themes and current events are also incorporated into daily lessons.
“I like the smaller feel of the school and that I have a direct line of communication with the teachers at all times. They go above and beyond to ensure that my daughter is happy and doing well. We are proud to be a part of the Spring Academy family.” Petra, parent of Spring Academy Student
The Warren campus is open year-round with different options such as a full day/half day in a Montessori program or full day/half day Language Immersion (Chinese or Spanish) or a Montessori/Language Immersion combination. Based on need and interest in the community, Spanish was recently introduced into the curriculum. Spring Academy also offers enrichment and afterschool classes for older children such as homework help, additional math/English drills, foreign language class, chess, yoga, Tae Kwon Do, art, and more.
In the summer, the learning continues. Children of all ages can participate in a fun and educational 9-week Summer Camp signing up for one week or several weeks at a time. For preschoolers, a bi-weekly fun theme is built into a half-day Montessori/half-day Chinese Immersion designed to help young transition into the new school year. A bi-weekly Friday performance where campers invite family and friends to watch them sing, recite and perform was added this summer and is highly popular!
For older children in grades 1 – 8, there’s the Learning, Friends, and Fun Camp with Friday field trips and enrichment offerings such as computer coding, game design, art, baking, STEM (robotics), Kung Fu and more.
“All my kids love the staff at Spring Academy. To call them staff is just too removed - we are too friendly and familiar and comfortable with each other and care for them as much as they care for our children. My daughters can't wait to return to after school lessons at Spring Academy.” – Jennifer, parent of three Spring Academy Students
