WARREN, NJ - November is National Gratitude Month, a time to celebrate and be grateful for what we have.  Organized by the Central School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), the Central School Community partnered with Jersey Cares.  The mission of Jersey Cares is to increase civic engagement in New Jersey by coordinating volunteer opportunities to address community-identified needs.  Central School PTO members collected items for “first-night kits” which will be distributed to New Jersey children on their firstnight at a new foster home or homeless shelter.  The kits contained a pair of fuzzy socks or slippers, a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and soap, as well as a note to the recipient of the kit.

Jennifer McCarey, the Social Action Chairperson for the Central School PTO was delighted by the participation of Central families. “Our amazing Central School Community donated enough supplies for over 100 first-night kits.”

The kits were assembled with the help and support from Alyssa Pech, Central School Counselor as well as the Student Leaders in grades 3, 4 and 5. The completed kits were then delivered to Jersey Cares by grade 5 student, Gavin Montgomery. The Central School students and families have certainly demonstrated the meaning of Shining Brighter Every Day.
