WARREN, NJ - Watchung Hills History was made this weekend in Track and Field.
Watchung Hills distance runners, competed in the Ridge Night of the 1600s Twilight Meet on May 3 at Ridge High School and jumpers competed in the Mercer Coaches Classic in Plainsboro on Saturday, May 4.
Junior Laura Baeyens won the girls 1600-meter race breaking the school record by three seconds with time of 4:56.2. Baeyens set the previous WHRHS Record at the 2018 State Group 4 Championships. Senior Jamie Tomassetti is now the second-fastest 1600m runner in Watchung Hills history with a seven-second improvement of her PR, placing fourth overall in the meet with a time of 5:08.1. Baeyens’ and Tomasetti’s Times are now No.1 and No.10 in New Jersey.
James Ptack led the boys group with a 4:33.57 followed by season bests performances by Connor Ashnault 4:55.52, Alan Ho 4:57.62, Michael Minieri 5:00.88 and Dylan D'Costa 5:02.89.
On Saturday, jumpers from Watchung Hills participated in the Mercer Coaches Classic in Plainsboro.
Junior Bradley Jelmert finished first in Pole Vault at the Mercer Coaches Classic and broke both the school record and meet record with a jump of 15-6.25. Jelmert currently sits at No. 1 in New Jersey with that jump.
Junior Mahogany Jenkins won both the triple jump and the high jump, placed third in the long jump in 16-7 and sixth in the 100-meter dash in 13.00. Jenkins’ triple jump was a new meet record of 38-4.75 and her high jump of 5-2 was a personal record.
