MILLBURN, NJ - Service has resumed with heavy delays on the Morris and Essex Line after a trespasser was struck and killed by a train near the Millburn train station earlier this morning.

According to NJ Transit Spokesperson Lisa Torbic, the incident occurred with a train out of Dover. The victim was an adult male, although no further information about him is known at this time. The fatality occurred just east of the actual station itself.

“It was about 6:45 this morning,” Torbic said. ”It was an eastbound Morris and Essex Line train...number 6610.”

Torbic also confirmed that the eastbound train was scheduled to arrive at New York Penn Station at around 7:17 before the incident occurred. Additionally, the victim was struck and killed just east of the actual station itself.

She said that of the approximately 700 people on board engine 6610, no injuries were reported to authorities at the scene.

As of press time, service has resumed with up to two-hour delays in both directions. Train tickets will be cross-honored on NJ Transit busses and other private carriers.
