BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The reopening of the Mountain Avenue bridge, originally planned for August 20, 2019, has been delayed due to unforeseen utility conflicts with “the best estimate for the Mounain Avenue Bridge to be reopened to traffic is on or about October 11, 2019, “ according to an announcement from the Township of Berkeley Heights.

PSE&G and New Jersey American Water Company have both mobilized on site and are in the process of relocating existing utilities. Upon completion of the water main and gas main utility relocations, the bridge work will take approximately 50 days to finish.

“While we are disappointed that the Mountain Avenue Bridge won’t be completed next week as originally anticipated, the underground utility problems the workers discovered need to be effectively remediated for the benefit of our residents," said Mayor Angie Devanney.

Meanwhile, we are in contact with the County to get regular updates on the progress being made. As with any infrastructure work being done in town, we understand these activities can pose temporary inconveniences to our residents. We apologize for this and ask for patience as we continue to make improvements to our town, “ said Mayor Devanney.
