NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - A fatal accident on Route 22 in North Plainfield involving a pedestrian on Saturday night is being investigated by the North Plainfield Police Department, North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti announced on Sunday. The North Plainfield Police Department, in conjunction with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team, is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident in the borough.
At 9:54 PM, Saturday, the North Plainfield Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on Route 22 at West End Ave., North Plainfield. Responding police units found that a pedestrian, Franklin Caiza, North Plainfield, Age 33, had been struck on the highway and suffered fatal injuries.
It appears that the pedestrian was traveling across the highway from North to South and was struck by a vehicle traveling east driven by Joseph F Mallare, Elizabeth, Age 54, authorities said.
The North Plainfield Fire Department and JFK Paramedics responded.
