BRIDGEWATER, NJ - So close. The Watchung Hills boys lacrosse team fell to Bridgewater-Raritan, in overtime, as the Panthers won a fourth-straight Somerset County Tournament title on Saturday, 5-4, at the Torpey Athletic Complex.
Watchung Hills took an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter with goals from Gavin DeFuria, Connor James, and Joe Rica.
The last game the Panthers lost was on April 17, a 9-4 loss to Watchung Hills.
The Warriors were ahead 4-3 with 1:23 left in regulation, when Troy Tangolics tied the game 4-4 with his third goal of the game for the Panthers.
After a Warrior penalty, Watchung Hills was slapped with a 30 second penalty for interference with 39 seconds to play in sudden-death, Riley Moore scored the game winner with 1.8 seconds left in the penalty.
The teams may meet again as they prepare for the North Jersey, Group 4 tournament beginning this week.
