WARREN, NJ - The Watchung Hills boys and girls basketball teams both fell to Gill St. Bernard’s on Tuesday.

In Warren, the Knights won their 10th in a row, improving to 16-3, defeating the Watchung Hills boys, 72-49. Watchung Hills falls to 19-2 on the season with the only two losses to Gill.

Freshman forward Mackenzie Mgbako scored a game-high 20 points, Will Soucie had 17 points, Zach Martini added 13 points and 16 rebounds freshman guard Isaac Hester had 11 points for Gill.

Michael Bressler led the Warriors with 10 points, Trevor Bokach added nine and Chad Martini chipped in eight.

 

“Tough night tonight ... disappointing result in biggest game of year for a conference title,” said WHRHS boys head coach Justin Salton. “We will need to regroup quick as we travel to the No. 20 team in the country on Thursday.”

At Gill, Sophomore Bella Murray led the scoring for Watchung Hills with 17 points. Caitlin Bonnesen added 9 points and 6 rebounds while Alexa Santo chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds as the Warriors dropped to 16-3 on the season with the loss, 50-46.

Caileigh Walsh paced Gill St. Bernard’s with 19 points and Tori Goldin pitched in 10 points for the Knights to help the team improve to 11-7 on the season.

Watchung Hills next faces Rutgers Prep on Thursday.
