WARREN, NJ - Watchung Hills Wrestling finished the season at 15-2 under first year head coach James Huff. The Warriors had a historic season and sent five wrestlers to the show in Atlantic City this weekend.
Huff is in his first year as head coach after taking the helm from Dan Smith, who led the Warriors for 23 years winning many accolades including Coach of the Year.
And this year, Huff was named District Coach of the Year, Watchung Hills won Somerset County, won its second straight District title and a school record 13 Warriors placed in the top three of their weight classes to advance to regions.
“This has been such a fun and successful year for the wrestling program,” said coach Huff. “Winning the county championship, district championship, sectional championship and finishing in the top 20 in the state are all amazing accomplishments. More importantly, these young men and women have grown throughout the season and became better people. I am sad to see the seniors leave but also excited to watch them in their future endeavors. The wrestling community is as strong as its ever been and I want to thank all the families and friends that have contributed to this season. Also, thank you to the best coaching staff in the state: Dan Smith, Doug Kolody, Mike Lisbona, Roberto Ramos, and Mike Pielich. None of this would’ve been possible without your time and effort! Go warriors!”
