WAYNE, NJ – In a letter published on the Wayne school district’s website, Wayne Superintendent, Dr. Mark Toback wrote an open letter to parents and students reminding them of two dates in the calendar: February 14 and February 17.
“I am writing to call your attention to two features that are unique in our school calendar,” wrote Toback. “These details appear in the fine print of the calendar and I suspect that many may not be aware.”
“As a result of an effort to address concerns about the school year ending in late June, the district was able to save a day at the end of the year by making the Friday (February 14th) before President’s weekend a minimal day. Prior to the 18/19 calendar, school was always closed on the Friday before Presidents’ Day. In addition, there is a stipulation that if there were two or more emergency days used by February 1st, schools would be open for a full day on Monday, February 17th, which is Presidents’ Day.
Since only one emergency day was used as of February 1st, the Wayne Township Public Schools will be closed on Monday, February 17th. The Winter Recess weekend will begin with a minimal day on Friday, February 14th as scheduled.
The next scheduled time off for the schools will be Spring Recess from April 6 – 10
