WAYNE, NJ – Mayor Chris Vergano, during his June 2 daily COVID briefing, announced that he was among the 3,010 Wayne residents who have tested negative for the coronavirus. Vergano is the local spokesman for hand washing, mask wearing and social distancing, so it is good to see that he practices what he preaches and remains COVID free.

He also said that there was “a lot of good news today.”

“The State of New Jersey has advised us that we have ZERO new COVID-19 deaths to report for today for Wayne Township,” he said.

This is the third day in a row with zero deaths to report.  Wayne’s death toll remains at 165.

“I can also report that we've had an additional two positive test results from today's report,” Vergano added. Two women aged 58 and 82 tested positive bringing Wayne’s cumulative total to 1,352.

“A total of 3,010 people from Wayne, including me, tested negative, so we need to continue what we're doing because we're certainly on the right path,” he said.

Vergano then announced the schedule for voluntary free COVID testing at the four senior living facilities in town.

  • Wednesday, June 3 will be Sisco village
  • Thursday, June 4 will be the Summer Hill Apartments
  • Friday, June 5 will be Sienna Sillage
  • Monday, June 8 will be Four Seasons

“Register with your management company,” said the Mayor, referring to the company that manages each property. “If you have any questions about the program you can call our health Department here at Wayne Township 973-694-1800”

“I would ask everyone: please wash your hands, please stay away from each other,” he said in conclusion. “Check on your family members and the elderly who are the most vulnerable.
