WAYNE, NJ – The holidays are upon us with Thanksgiving this week. There are several ways to celebrate and participate as a family and as a community.  Wayne Township and the Wayne Parks and Recreation Department have set up several events for you and your family to feel festive and chase away the winter blues even during a global pandemic.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

  • Thursday, December 3 at 6:30 p.m. in front of Town Hall.
  • Rain/Snow date: Friday, December 4
  • 6:30 – 7:00 Holiday music
  • 7:00 – Welcome from Mayor and lighting of tree
  • 7:10 – Holiday Sing-a-long with Cub Scout Pack 104
  • 7:15 – Santa arrives!


Phone Calls from Santa

  • Even Mr. and Mrs. Claus need to keep to social distance guidelines, so instead of sitting on Santa’s lap this year, kids can receive phone calls from Jolly old St. Nick.
  • Parents must schedule a time via registration by December 1
  • Santa and Mr. Clause will make calls on December 8
    • 2, 3 and 4 year olds from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
    • 5 year olds/kindergarten from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
    • Grades 1, 2 and 3 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.


Chanukah Celebration/Menorah Lighting

  • Tuesday, December 15 at 7:00 p.m. in front of Town Hall.
  • Join Community leaders, Mayor Vergano and local dignitaries to light the Menorah and enjoy song, dance and refreshments.




Gingerbread House Decorating Contest

  • Create a one-of-a-kind Gingerbread Masterpiece at home and enter it into the Township Gingerbread House Contest. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize ribbons awarded for the following categories: Elementary K-5, Middle School grades 6-8, High School – Adult.
  • One Grand Prize Winner Wins a Gift Card.
  • Entries can be dropped off at the Parks and Rec Department on December 14 and 15.
  • Gingerbread houses will be displayed in the front lobby of Town Hall between December 16 and 28.
  • Voting and winners will be determined on December 21.


The Great Winter Goose Chase

  • Following the success of this past summer’s Great Wayne Goose Chase, comes the sequel which begins on Thursday, December 31 and continues through February 26.
  • This is a series of fun, goofy games for the whole family that are afe and easy to play.
  • Complete all the challenges, post your results and race toward the top prize of a $200 gift card.
  • Every Friday, during the chase, new games, activities and challenges will be posted for entrants to try to complete.  These are all socially distant, pandemic-safe activities for individuals, teams and families to do.
  • Winners will be announced on March 2, 2021


Winter Ceramics Classes

  • Two class choices:
    • Wednesday mornings from Jan 13 – March 17 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
    • Thursday evenings from Jan 14 – March 18 from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • For adults 16+
  • Registration includes paints, firing, and instruction.
