HAWTHORNE, NJ - A man was arrested for alleged shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia in Hawthorne on February 7, according to the Hawthorne Police Department.
The Police said at 2:33 p.m. that Friday, a patrolling officer noticed a man entered the 7-Eleven on Goffle Road after parking a 2005 Dodge Dakota pickup truck "in a suspicious manner." The individual was then seen to run out of the convenience store, hop into the vehicle, and drive quickly out of the parking lot. The officer was said to have noted a similarity between the individual and a suspect involved in a case of shoplifting at the Sunoco Gas Station on February 6.
The officer followed and pulled the truck over on Mohawk Avenue. The driver was identified as Christopher Laforge, 36, from Wayne. The Police Department said that the officer observed empty glassine envelopes for heroin on the floor along with a number of packs of cigarettes. Hawthorne Police investigated the 7-Eleven and looked over security camera footage, which allegedly showed Laforge stealing several packs of cigarettes from the store.
With Laforge under arrest, he was transported to the Hawthorne police station. As the investigation continued, the police said that he was identified as the individual involved with the prior day's shoplifting, where cigarettes were stolen from the Sunoco.
Charged for both of the incidents, he was additionally issued a number of motor vehicle summonses before being released, pending a court date.
