PATERSON, NJ - A Wayne man involved in a fatal car crash on August 9 now faces several charges related to the October 21 incident that claimed the life of Gustavo Marte 58, Paterson, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announced Thursday.

According to a statement Asante Cugliari, 22, is charged with Death by Auto, Second Degree, and Strict Liability Vehicular Homicide, Third Degree. Cugliari faces up to 10 years in jail on the most serious charge. 

As previously reported, on August 9 members of the Paterson Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles. Cugliari was operating a 2013 Hyundai Genesis and Marte was operating a 2008 Dodge Charger when the vehicles collided in the intersection of Ninth Avenue and East 26th Street. Marte was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mr. Cugliari was charged based on the results of the investigation.
