WAYNE, NJ - Longtime Wayne resident and author, Jeffrey J. Antonucci, will be having a book discussion and signing at the Wayne Public Library on Sunday, February 9, 2020 as he continues to promote his acclaimed novel Deep Within A Blueberry Sky. The event goes from 1:30pm – 4:30pm
This is Antonucci’s second visit to the Wayne Public Library and Library Director Doreen Shoba is happy to have him back. “He did such a wonderful job with his talk last time,” she said. “Everyone enjoyed the time he shared with us.”
Antonucci was not always an author. It took a turn of unforeseen circumstances for his new career to launch.
Born and raised in Wayne, Antonucci went through the Wayne Public School system, graduating from Wayne Valley High School. He then followed in his family’s footsteps, working in construction as a bricklayer for years before eventually taking a job as a facilities manager for a large corporation. “That job came at a good time in my life. It was a nice position to have,” said Antonucci.
In May 2016, he was working for a different company in the same position when he found out that his position was going away. “It was a worrisome time,” he said.” But I tried to go on the faith that when one door closes, another one opens.”
It was a drive down Route 80, where Antonucci found the inspiration to write. Stenciled on the back window of a pickup truck, he saw: “When you are down to nothing, God is up to something.”
He took that as a sign and kept that in his mind. About a week later, he was finishing up the last days of his job when the inspiration hit. “Literally, out of the blue, I see this ‘slideshow’ before my eyes,” said Antonucci with a touch of wonder in his words. “I saw the story as images and when they were done, I thought to myself: ‘That is a wonderful story.’ And, I’m going to write it.”
Nine months later, Antonucci finished the manuscript.
“Deep Within a Blueberry Sky is a magical realism novel. Which is in the same genre of the Wizard of Oz,” said Lindsey Mach, an independent book marketer out of Wayne. “The story has a wide-range of audience appeal, getting interest from high school students and older people.”
According to Mach’s press release: “Deep Within a Blueberry Sky tells of loving grandparents, Grandma Jennie, and Poppy Tom, who devise a plan using the elements of a beautifully penned poem to teach their young granddaughter, Sarah, lessons of love and life that she will carry with her and draw strength from, for the rest of her life. In the book, Antonucci reveals to the reader through powerful prose, Sarah’s journey of self-discovery and empowerment that spans decades.”
The novel was published through Woodpecker Press out of Livingston, New Jersey and is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and on Antonucci’s website: inspiredworks.net.
Antonucci’s personal story didn’t end with the publication of his first novel. The story inspired the author to begin the process of forming a social movement to bring awareness to the tumultuous state of the world we live and the desperate need for improvement. It’s called: Love and Peace, A Sign For Our Times.
“Through this initiative, he is using a new, nonthreatening three-finger hand sign that he hopes will become known and used universally to symbolize love and peace to all people and all things,” said Mach.
