The week of May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation Week, and it has never been more important to recognize our dedicated teachers. Each day in the news media, we see the faces and hear about the heroic efforts of healthcare workers, first responders, essential employees. We truly appreciate the work they are doing on the front lines to provide support to our community during this pandemic. This week we would like to honor and celebrate another group of inspiring individuals, those who teach the students of the Wayne Township Public School District each day.

Throughout this crisis, Wayne Township Public School teachers have demonstrated their commitment to our mission of supporting students and facilitating their growth. They have shown tremendous resilience, creativity, and most of all, humanity as they shifted from teaching in person, to distance learning. Online professional development sessions, virtual meetings, and Google Classrooms have become the norm, and have forced many of these trained professionals to deliver their craft in ways like never before.

We have seen dedicated and talented professionals continue to deliver motivational lessons that both fulfill curricular requirements and support the emotional well-being of our students. One interesting by-product of this situation is that students have seen the human side of their teachers, and teachers have seen the obstacles many students contend with beyond their school day. This bridge is unique and personal and it helps to establish trust and foster stronger relationships.

Lives have changed in unexpected ways during this unprecedented crisis, and the important role of teachers and schools has been highlighted. It has become apparent that schools are not only critical cogs in the economic machine, but also that teachers are an important and impactful constant in children’s lives. We are so appreciative of everything our teachers do on a daily basis, but especially during this time of crisis.

To our Wayne teachers, we offer our sincere appreciation for all you do for our students!
