WAYNE, NJ - To accompany his announcement of the signed State of Emergency Proclamation, Acting Wayne Police Chief Jack McNiff wrote this letter to the people of Wayne Township:
The Wayne Township Office of Emergency Management, in conjunction with Mayor Christopher P. Vergano, has issued a State of Emergency for Wayne Township in response to the Covid-19 Pandemic. This particular declaration enhances the township’s ability to operate at an optimal level of preparedness, while ensuring appropriate allocation of, and access to, resources, supplies, and manpower. This declaration also allows the Office of Emergency Management, under the direction of Captain Daniel Daly, to spearhead a united and resilient team of township leaders to safeguard the needs of this great community.
Mayor Vergano, along with the Wayne Township Council, is steadfast in his commitment to keeping the residents and visitors of Wayne Township safe. While fear and confusion may permeate cities and towns around the world, Wayne Township remains resolute and unyielding in its commitment to the people we serve. As a unified community, we will emerge from this pandemic stronger than ever.
The Wayne Police, First Aid Squad, Fire, and Health Departments (through the Office of Emergency Management) are a unified front and remain committed to the great people of this community that we serve. Township Officials are in constant contact and dialogue with County and State Health and Offices of Emergency Management to keep you safe.
We call on you, the great people of Wayne, to remain vigilant in your efforts to prevent the spread of this virus. Please continue to follow recommendations from Wayne Township, the Office of Governor Murphy, and the Centers for Disease Control.
All Wayne Township residents and visitors are urged to follow us on social media for updates.
