WAYNE, NJ – The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission confirmed what many have been sharing on social media: the Wayne MVC Licensing Center in Wayne has been closed for “deep cleaning” because an employee tested positive for COVID-19
The facility will be closed until July 28. MVC is telling people to consider going to the Oakland, Paterson or Lodi locations in the meantime.
"We will monitor the situation at Wayne and work closely with health officials to reopen on July 28, once we have verified a safe and healthy environment for the public and MVC employees,” said in a statement.
Long-lines and long waits have plagued the Wayne location since it opened on July 7. Traffic into the site regularly backs up from Rt 46 onto Riverview Drive into Totowa. Rumors circulated that people were waiting in their cars, sleeping overnight to get a chance to register their car or renew their license.
Those waits will likely be even longer at the other MVC locations as they try to take up the slack here in Wayne.
