POMPTON PLAINS, NJ — A Sparta family is going to have some interesting birthday celebrations in the future following the unusual birth of their twins. Rebekah Faith was born at 11:46 p.m. March 31 and her sister Charlotte Grace was born 12:06 a.m. April 1. Not only were they born on different days but in different months as well.
“Rebekah is named for the biblical character Rebekah who went through infertility and ended up having twins,” mom Courtney said.
Far from an April Fools joke the family has had a long journey to be able to welcome the girls to the family. Their mother said she had become pregnant with the identical twins after two years of infertility and a single embryo transfer.
“We were praying for one baby but God gave us two,” Cortney said.
After a relatively unremarkable pregnancy, at 32 weeks complications developed.
Courtney said some of the issues could have been related to moving. They purchased a home but “the seller was difficult” and they were not able to move into the new house until about two weeks before the twins were born.
Her doctor induced labor at 36 weeks in Chilton Medical Center, during which there were additional complications, eventually requiring significant blood transfusions.
Both babies needed to remain in the “special care nursery” each needing feeding tubes for a while.
Charlotte was able to come home a week later but Rebekah remained in the hospital, where she was kept in an isolet to maintain her body temperature until April 18..
“Happy to say we are all together now,” Cortney said.
