WAYNE, NJ – Two cars crashed into two separate telephone poles on Ratzer Road near Garside Avenue on Wednesday evening, sending four to a local hospital, and closing Ratzer Road for hours.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Antonio Cruz (38) of Wayne was driving eastbound on Ratzer Road with his wife Jenelle and a juvenile in a gray 2016 Honda CRV when it struck a telephone pole, according to the Wayne Township Police Department.  All three were transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, where Mr. Cruz and the juvenile are being treated for serious injuries and Ms. Cruz was treated for less serious injuries.

The second motor vehicle, a white 2016 Honda CRV, was being operated by Heuris Munoz (35) of Paterson. Munoz was traveling westbound on Ratzer Road when his car struck a different telephone pole. Munoz was also transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries.

The accident is under investigation by the Wayne PD, and no further details were revealed at this time, though they say that more information will be released once it becomes available.

Kat Esquiche, a witness to the scene after the accident described it as: “The most awful accident I’ve seen. I saw a car mangled on a pole, then I saw another white car thrown to the side. It was very scary.”
