First arriving units confirmed heavy black smoke at the back of the house and confirmed a working fire.   A second alarm was requested.

Fire Company 4 was added to the incident and dispatched.  Units quickly determined that all of the occupants were out of the house and safe.  A hose line was stretched to the basement where firefighters were met with heavy smoke, moderate heat and zero visibility.  The source of the fire was identified, and the fire was extinguished.  Wayne firefighters checked for extension, but none was found and the fire was declared under control at 3:06PM.

The house has minor fire, smoke and water damage to the basement and smoke damage to the remainder of the house.  The house was ventilated and secured and turned over to the Wayne Police and Fire Bureau who are investigating the incident which is not considered suspicious.
