WAYNE, NJ – At approximately 1:32pm on September 11, 2019, James DeSalvo of Wayne was riding his bicycle near 309 Black Oak Ridge Road when a blown tire from a passing Mack dump truck came loose and struck him. According to Wayne Police Chief James Clarke, DeSalvo suffered serious injuries and was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson where he remains in critical condition.
Eugene Petit, 68 of Staten Island, was driving the dump truck which was loaded with asphalt at the time. After the tire dismounted from the vehicle, it rolled southbound on the shoulder until it struck DeSalvo.
No charges have been filed at this time as this is still under investigation.
