WAYNE, NJ — The Wayne Parks and Recreation Department, in conjunction with TAPinto Wayne, is holding the Township’s first-ever Cornhole League. It’s time to find out who is the best of the best when it comes to throwing a bean bag into a small hole on an inclined wooden board.

The league will be hosted by the Taphouse – Wayne on French Hill Road and the Village Inn on Runnymede Drive. Both restaurants will be offering meals and drink specials for players and fans who come to watch.

There are $1,000 in prizes that will be given out for the top three teams, and the Philly Pretzel Factory in Wayne will be giving out weekly prizes on top of this.

Prizes will be donated by the Wayne Surgical Center, the Elite Surgical Center, Conan Ward- your Wayne Edward Jones Financial Advisor as well as from the Taphouse – Wayne and the Village Inn.

There are still sponsorship opportunities available. If your business would like to donate prizes, email Ferris from TAPinto Wayne here: jmeredith@tapinto.net.

Games will be played on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. beginning May 4 and culminating in the championship rounds on June 29th.

Teams can be just two people, or you can have four people on a team that rotate play.

“Having four people on a team can help in case someone can’t show up one Tuesday,” said Parks and Recreation Department Director Tim Roetman. “We will be playing regular ACO two vs two rules, but a four-person team can play two people for one match and a different two people for another match.”

Last September, the Township held it’s first Cornhole one-day tournament and thirty-four people on seventeen teams came to compete for the glory of being Wayne’s first cornhole champions.

It was John Immediato and Dave Monisera, two volunteer football coaches that took the first championship.

They have already committed to defending their title in this first-ever league and look forward to the competition.
