WEST CALDWELL, NJ — The World Languages Department of James Caldwell High School (JCHS) recently conducted its Latin Honor Society Induction Ceremony, which honored 15 Junior Classical League students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and citizenship in Latin class.
The following students were officially designated as National Junior Classical League (NJCL) Latin Honor Society members on Tuesday:

According to the JCHS World Language Department, NJCL Latin Honor Society induction matters because it shows prospective colleges and employers that a student values high academic achievement and has maintained proper citizenship. Colleges typically value language honor society induction because they are eager to accept students who challenge themselves and succeed in meaningful courses.
“The pursuit of classical training and studying Latin and understanding Greco-Roman civilization and history are all wonderful pursuits to which my students have a great commitment,” said Dr. Christopher Trause, Coordinator, World Languages Department. “This is one of the good things and somewhat exotic that our students do here at the high school.”
The Latin Honor Society membership is earned annually based on student performance. The Honor Society registration opens on Dec. 1 and ends on July 1.
